When you Put something
good out into the world,
something good comes
back to you
good out into the world,
something good comes
back to you
Because we believe in karma
Because we believe in karma.
This is what adds a little skip to our walk every day, to the workplace.
Knowing that in the making of a Terra Thread Home product, everybody benefits. Right from the farmer who, in his wisdom of rain and shine plants the seed, to the little baby wrapped up in soft love, dreaming happy dreams.
And this is how our story started. Driven by our love for the weave, the planet, the people, and you, and a penchant for quality, purity and philanthropy. We believe that the more connected a product is to the Earth that granted its atoms, the worthier to be woven and adorned.
We’re all about making a happy home, kindly.
WHY THE UNCONVENTIONAL?
Because the conventional serves no one. Not you, not the planet, not the farmer who toiled to reap his produce. It is estimated that 25% of the pesticides used in the world, is used in conventional cotton farming. This carries a horde of problems. Heavy use of pesticides contaminates water, pollutes the environment and harms biodiversity. More pesticides mean more investment for the farmers which lead them to debt traps and farmer suicides. Not to forget the health hazards of spraying pesticides by hand – illnesses caused by poisoning!
OUR VALUES & PHILOSOPHY
Our vision is to offer the world’s most sustainable, ethical, and affordable bed and bath products.
Our mission is to create organic and Fairtrade cotton bed and bath products for individuals, businesses, and non-profits that make the world a better place by always being sustainable, ethical, traceable and transparent.
It has been found that the impact of water pollution of organic cotton is 98% less compared to the conventional cotton production.
Nobody benefits from this business-as-usual model besides the profit-makers. And that is just not good enough for us.
We believe that sustainably-grown organic cotton is the right choice. The use of expensive chemical pesticides is replaced by natural, environment-friendly methods of controlling pests. Not only does this improve soil fertility and porosity, and eliminate the danger of being poisoned, it is lighter on the farmer’s pocket. In addition, he gets a higher return on his produce through the Farmer Cooperatives. Organic cotton production also abolishes child or forced labour in the fields, making the fabric of society stronger and healthier.
Organic cotton produces 94% less greenhouse gas emissions.
Even when it comes to conventional methods of dyeing and printing, there is a high use of chemicals that contain heavy metals and substances, that could be hazardous and carcinogenic leading to serious health problems. This is precisely why all Terra Thread Home products are made with substances that are approved by GOTS, in order to minimize our impact on the environment, and the health of our partners along the supply chain.
It is organic cotton that adds an extra softness to our sheets and blankets. Conventionally-produced cotton is weakened by chemicals, used during the growing, processing and dyeing, and results in an inferior cotton product. Organic means softer, strong, durable and better. And that is what we bring to you.
We wish to be responsible for clean skies, safe water, happy farmers and communities, healthy working environment and sustainable alternatives to every process. This is our legacy at Terra Thread Home.
THE CIRCLE OF GOODNESS
And so, starting from the cotton plant in an organic farm in India, every Terra Thread Home product manufactured is a messenger of goodness – good for the farmers, good for the factory workers and good for the planet.
So, when you choose our products to add a little goodness to your home, you are helping put a little good back into the world.
Good, that will come back to you in the form of a cleaner environment, a greener planet -free of chemicals, dyes and pesticides - transparent companies, pure materials sourced from happier farmers and honest policies that will never change, so that when you choose us, we will be good for you, and the world.
WHERE IT BEGAN
“The future depends on what you do today.” ― Mahatma Gandhi
For Founder, Vikrant Giri, these words drive him to continuously seek different avenues towards a sustainable world for future generations.
Even though he was born and raised in Nepal, Vik (as everybody calls him) nurtured a deep affinity to India. His father fought in the Indian Independence Movement, while his three brothers found work and home in a country.
After moving to the United States, Vik sought to start a business for financial freedom and to support his family. He sources products made from scrapped fabric, by small artisans in Nepal. As the business grew, Vik became more aware of the harmful effects of fast fashion on the environment and industry laborers. Coming from a developing country, he witnessed first-hand the exploitation of workers and the toll of climate change on vulnerable populations.
Passionate and emotionally invested, this father-daughter duo make the Terra Thread wheels turn, satisfied in the knowledge that a day at work, isn’t just about them.
Terra Thread Home was created in response to the detrimental effects of fast fashion, not only on the environment, but also on industry laborers.
With only 1% of the fashion industry occupied by sustainable brands, Terra Thread Home seeks to change industry norms. Terra Thread Home is taking a stand against the exploitation of industry workers. We ensure safe working environments, gender equality, and pay a fair price for their goods and services. All products are made from Fairtrade Organic Cotton. Even with investments in sustainable and ethical practices, Terra Thread Home products remain affordable in order to give conscious consumers the opportunity to experience the 'good' of the products and become a part of their journey.
